It's the Final Countdown

saradanver.substack.com

This is it my friends. The rare Friday post because we only have four - that’s right, FOUR - days until the midterm elections are over. That means there are just four days left to fight for abortion rights, queer rights, racial justice, an economy that works for all of us, democracy, and the whole planet. Republicans claim they want to fight crime and fix the economy but all they really want to do is turn us against each other, make us small and scared, so that when they give each other huge tax breaks at our expense, when they gut the planet and strip our democracy for parts, we don’t fight back.

Meanwhile Democrats passed the largest investment in addressing climate change in history, a historic infrastructure act, lowered the price of prescription drugs, confirmed a whole host of young, diverse, and brilliant judges, and there’s so much more we can do if we keep power in Congress, in state legislatures, and on city councils and school boards all over the country.

So in the last four days, here’s what you can do:

  1. If you want to spend the next four days with a really enthusiastic and generous group of volunteers, sign up here. We’re making calls together and freaking out together and sending texts and hyping canvass shifts, and it’s a lot of fun. (That’s where the heading on this post comes from)

  2. If you’ve only got time for one shift and you just want to get in and get out, I’ve got some options for you below. These are phone and text banks, but if you want some helping finding some canvassing opportunities hit me up! Remember - you don’t have to stay for the whole shift, but talking to just a few voters can make a huge difference AND will make you feel better, I promise.

    1. Call voters in Pennsylvania

    2. Call voters in Nevada

    3. Call voters in Georgia

    4. Call voters in Arizona

    5. Call voters in Wisconsin

    6. Call voters in New Hampshire

    7. Text young voters with NextGen

    8. Find more stuff here!

  3. Text three friends and help them make a plan to vote. And then text three more. Share this post with friends and family. Tell your mailman to get his ballot in. Literally reach out to everyone you know. Talking about politics with your networks is actually the most effective form of organizing.

Bonus opportunity for New York friends: our governor’s race is really scary. And if you don’t want an election denying anti abortion Trump sycophant in office, we’ve got to turn out as many voters as possible. You can literally knock on your neighbor’s doors with this tool. You can canvass in Manhattan, You can phone bank. Let’s keep our state a safe haven for all who need it.

Remember - your energy, your time, your voice matters. You matter. And you can make a difference. See you out there!
