Keep Calm and Sign Up for a Phone Bank

You’ll notice this post did not appear on its usual Monday! And there’s not going to be a post next Monday either. I’m out of town for a dear friend’s wedding and I’m not going to have my usual writing time. But we have less than three weeks until the 2024 elections are over, and so there isn’t much time for reading and writing posts anyway!
If you’ve been reading the polls or the news at all, you’ll have noticed that this election is extremely close. Like almost tied close. Harris is up by about three points in the national polls and virtually tied in basically all the swing states. Assuming the polls are fairly accurate, this election is going to be decided by just a few thousand votes in a handful of states. In the organizing business we call that a field margin, because the work we do in the field can make the difference. If a race is essentially tied then our conversations with voters matter more than ever. The race could be decided by one or two voters per precinct in one swing state. It could be decided by a phone call you make.
So instead of going on and on, I’m going to leave you with several volunteer opportunities and hope that you’ll all pick one so that we can reach as many voters as possible. All of these phone banks will have training and a script. They all obscure your phone number so you’re not giving it to a bunch of strangers. And they are helping to turnout voters all over the country so that we can make our selves heard, and fight for our future. So let’s go join them!
